How many tiles and boxes, and how much grout TILE
A 600 by 300 tile with a 3 mm joint covers 603 by 303 of floor. The count is the area over that, with the cuts added before rounding up to whole boxes. How much extra to buy.
The floor or the wall
For a room that is not a rectangle, work the area out in AREA and bring it here as “the area already”.
The tile
Ten per cent is the usual allowance for a straight lay. A diagonal or herringbone pattern, or a room with a lot of corners, cuts more: fifteen is nearer.
The grout
The joint is as deep as the tile is thick, less anything the adhesive fills. 1.6 kg a litre is the figure the makers of cement grouts use; an epoxy grout’s bag gives its own.

How it works
TILE counts each tile with its share of the joint, adds an allowance for cuts before rounding up, and works the grout out with the formula the grout makers print on the bag. The measurements stay in this tab.
Doing this often? Foundry, the Engineering Suite's drawing half draws the floor or wall to scale and measures its area off the drawing, then prints the plan to scale. On its own, US$2 a month; with everything else, US$5 a month or US$48 a year. 7 days free.
