Tool
[ and ] change the size. Shift-click draws a straight line from the last point.
Alt-click (or the button) sets where to copy from; then paint.
Tap or drag over a spot; it is filled from the pixels around it.
Shift adds to the selection, Alt takes away.
Drag to select. Shift adds, Alt takes away. Shift while dragging a rectangle keeps it square.
Drag to move the layer. Arrow keys nudge by a pixel, Shift-arrow by ten.
Drag the area to keep, then press Enter. Escape cancels.
Drag from where the foreground colour starts to where the background colour begins.
Click where the text should start and type. Enter for a new line; the tick or Ctrl Enter commits it to its own layer.
Drag to draw it on the current layer. Shift keeps it square, or the line at 45°.
Click to pick the foreground colour; Alt-click picks the background.

What this is, and what it is not
It is an editor, not a filter app. Layers with opacity and sixteen blend modes; rectangle, ellipse, lasso and wand selections that every tool respects; a brush with hardness and pressure; clone and spot heal; levels, curves, hue and saturation, exposure and temperature; blur, sharpen, noise, pixelate, vignette, emboss and edges; text and shapes on their own layers; scale, rotate and flip; and a project file that keeps all of it.
Nothing leaves this tab. The picture is decoded here, every edit is done on your machine, and the only thing fetched is this page's own code. Once it has loaded, it works with the internet off.
What is not here yet. Adjustment layers and layer masks, vector shapes that stay editable, and content-aware fill. The heal tool fills a spot from the pixels around it, which is what it says and no more.
Questions people ask
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The picture is decoded in this tab and every edit happens in memory on your machine. The page works with the internet switched off once it has loaded.
Does it keep layers?
Yes. Save the project and you get one file that holds every layer, its position, opacity and blend mode. Open it again later and carry on. Export gives you a flat PNG, JPEG or WebP.
Can it open HEIC from an iPhone?
Yes. A decoder is fetched from this site the first time one is opened, about 1.4 MB, and kept on your device.
What is missing?
Adjustment layers, layer masks, editable vector shapes and content-aware fill. The tools that are here are real: they work on the pixels the way their names say.
