Wedding vendor work has a few risk factors that most other freelance work doesn't: the date can't be moved or resold, the stakes for the client are emotionally high, and a single mistake often can't be corrected after the fact. A solid contract accounts for all three.
Retainer terms. Because booking a date means turning away all other inquiries for that day, retainers are almost universally non-refundable, state this explicitly.
Overtime and scope. Define exactly what's included (hours, deliverables, services) and how anything beyond that is billed, so a wedding that runs long doesn't turn into an unpaid extra two hours.
Emergency/backup clause. What happens if illness, injury, or an emergency prevents you personally from attending, do you have a backup vendor arrangement, or a refund policy for that scenario?
