What drives the range

• Event type: weddings typically pay more than corporate events or private parties due to longer sets and more coordination required.
• Equipment tier: professional sound/lighting rigs and backup equipment justify higher rates than a basic setup.
• Add-ons: MC duties, lighting design, and photo booth add-ons are usually priced separately on top of the base DJ rate.
• Travel and setup time: rates should account for load-in/load-out and travel, not just the hours actually performing.

Starting out vs. established

New independent dj / event entertainment typically land near the $30/hr end while building a client base and reputation. Once you have proof of results and repeat or referred clients, the $55/hr median becomes realistic. Specialists with a strong track record and reputation routinely reach $150/hr or more.

Getting paid once you've set your rate
