Insurance isn't one-size-fits-all for freelancers, what you need depends heavily on your type of work, income reliance, and risk exposure. A few common categories:
Health insurance. Without an employer plan, freelancers typically shop the ACA marketplace, a spouse's plan, or a professional association plan. This is usually the highest-priority coverage for most people.
Professional liability (errors & omissions). Covers claims that your advice, design, or deliverable caused a client financial harm. Common for consultants, designers, developers, and anyone whose work could plausibly "cause a problem" for a client's business.
General liability. Covers third-party injury or property damage, relevant if you visit client sites, handle their equipment, or run in-person events.
Disability insurance. Replaces income if you can't work due to illness or injury. Often overlooked, but arguably one of the most important coverages for someone whose income depends entirely on their own ability to work.
